Safety at our core

A relentless focus on safety is imperative to Torghatten. Safety is always our top priority and influences our entire organization. Our goal is zero serious accidents, and we have invested in a variety of targeted measures.

Our focus is aimed towards human, technical and organizational measures to counter unwanted incidents. We review risk analyses, procedures, reports, and investigations of incidents, while always seeking to learn more about how we can prevent new ones from occurring. We exchange lessons learnt and experiences between companies within the group and with other players in the industry. We focus on continuously refining our safety culture and we are constantly evolving within health, safety and the environment (HSE).

All entities within the group have established their own emergency response organizations with 24/7 emergency response. We carry out training sessions and exercises on and offshore, to ensure that the organization is well prepared, should an accident occur. Torghatten also utilizes new technologies to increase safety. An example is the introduction of autonomous ferry operations, including autodocking, autonomous vehicle boarding, autonomous crossings, and an anti-collision system.

Torghattens safety rules

  1. I am alert because I work in a risk-prone workplace.
  2. I have a responsibility to contribute to a safe and good working environment.
  3. I avoid unnecessary risk situations.
  4. I speak out if I experience something that poses or may pose a risk to my health and safety or that of others.
  5. I report accidents, deviations and near accidents, and am happy to make suggestions for improvement.
  6. I make risk assessments of conditions and situations that may affect the safety of people, the environment and material.
  7. I put safety first. Always.

E-learning for HSE

Professional training in HSE and safe work practices on board are important parts of Torghatten’s plan to reduce injuries and accidents. A new e-learning course will help raise awareness around security and can thus have a positive effect on injuries and absence due to sickness. The course is included in Torghatten’s course portfolio as a permanent compulsory course for all employees.

Quality forum

The quality forum is a collaborative forum for HSE and quality, consisting of quality managers from all the companies within Torghatten AS. The forum meets regularly and maintains continuous dialogue regarding day to day issues. The objective is to exchange experiences and standardize and develop tool and systems. Through this collaboration, we extract synergies, and ensure that best practice is transferred across companies to prevent accidents and build a good safety structure.
