On this route we are able to guarantee a spot up to a certain percentage of the ferry’s capasity:

30% of the capasity to/from Værøy and Røst

50% of the capasity to/from Bodø and Moskenes

The price of reserving a spot will be added to the ordinary ticket price.



Reserving a spot on the ferry

It is not mandatory to book the ticket in advance of your journey, and it is only a certain percentage of the boats capasity that are available to reserve in advance.

Reserved journeys must be payed before the booking is made and booked via our website. 

If you have made a booking for a reserved spot you must be in the queue marked as “Reserved/Prepaid” 45 minutes before departure.

For passengers without a vehicle there is 20 available tickets to buy for guaranteed seating every departure. You can only book 2 of these tickets at a time and you must be present 45 minutes before departure to register.

The booking for reserved spots must be made before 20:00 the day before departure. 

If you are traveling without a vehicle and you do not want to book a reserved spot, the journey is free of charge. You only need to be at the port before departure.

Important information regarding reserving a spot

The trip to and from the islands of Værøy and Røst is free. It is not free of charge for vehicles between Bodø and Moskenes.

These routes experience very high traffic during peak seasons. Travelers to the islands (Røst and Værøy) will be prioritized when there is a high demand. It is recommended that travelers between Bodø and Moskenes use the direct routes to avoid being left behind at the dock. 

It is possible to book and reserve a portion of the capacity per departure (30% of the capacity to/from Værøy and Røst, 50% of the capacity on Bodø - Moskenes). For sold-out departures, you can show up at the dock and join the regular queue.

If you have pre-booked a ticket, you must arrive at the dock at least 45 minutes before departure.

For routes exceeding 20 nautical miles, we are required to 

 of each passenger onboard the ferry. You will find a QR code for registration at all docks.

Onboard, you will find a café with a wide selection of hot and cold food/drinks.

Halhjem–Sandvikvåg is a ferry route over Bjørnafjorden. It's 22 km long, and is run by Torghatten Nord. In normal circumstances it should take about 45 minutes.

The ferry connection Jektvik–Kilboghavn crosses Værangen and Sørfjorden as part of county road 17 in Helgeland. It serves the Jektvik and Kilboghavn ferry quays in Rødøy municipality. The association is run by Torghatten Nord. The association is served by MF "Rødøy". In the summer of 2021, MF "Skutvik" and MF "Fykan" were supplementary vessels.

Moss-Horten offers an AutoPASS payment system, allowing you to pay for your journey using an AutoPASS tag. Additionally, there is a manual payment option for debit cards, credit cards, and cash.

To qualify for a discount on the ferry route, a valid AutoPASS tag must be used. Discounts are available for vehicles in groups AP1 (<6m) to AP9 (>22m).

A 10% discount is automatically applied if you have a valid AutoPASS agreement and tag from another toll system. The charge is forwarded to the toll company with which you have your main agreement.You can sign a discount agreement for the Moss-Horten route and receive a 30% discount (see details below).

If you wish to pay with an AutoPASS tag but do not already have one in your vehicle, you need to establish a main agreement with a toll company that issues tags.

Skyttel AS, which manages the AutoPASS payment system, offers tags through the issuer SkyttelPASS AS. Tags can be ordered at

No receipt is issued when paying with an AutoPASS tag. Your transaction history is available on the "My Page" section of your main agreement (tag issuer) or on 

 if you have a discount agreement for the Moss-Horten route.

The receipt button on the payment terminal in the AutoPASS lane is only for those paying with a card.

All car passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists travel free of charge on the ferry.

The manual payment lane must be used by the following:

Road users with health-related needs that require specific vehicle placement on board (AutoPASS tag payment can still be used in the manual lane)

Vehicles carrying hazardous materials (AutoPASS tag payment can still be used in the manual lane)

Road users with a valid AutoPASS tag who wish to pay with a debit/credit card or cash instead of using the tag

Receipts can be issued for those paying with a debit/credit card or cash in the manual lane.

By signing a discount agreement, you receive a 30% discount on the Moss-Horten route.

To enter into an agreement, you must have a valid AutoPASS tag from another toll company. 

 To receive the highest discount, both your vehicle registration number and tag must be registered on "My Page" at your agreement for the Moss-Horten route. Updates are required if you change vehicles or tags. When signing a discount agreement, a prepaid amount is required, as determined by the

General information about AutoPASS and discounts

Private customers can link two vehicles to a discount agreement. 

For road users with an agreement for the Moss-Horten route, crossing fees are continuously deducted at a 30% discount rate from the prepaid amount. A new invoice will be sent when approximately 25% of the prepaid amount remains.

No receipt is issued. The transaction overview can be found on "My Page".

To qualify for the discount, the total length of the vehicle, including any load, must fall within the same or a lower vehicle group than what has been prepaid for.
For vehicles in vehicle group AP1 (up to 6m) with a trailer, please refer to section 3.3 of the 

AutoPASS Regulations for the National Road Ferry Route Moss-Horten.

Discount agreement for Moss-Horten - private

Business customers can register as many vehicles as they wish in an agreement, provided the vehicles are registered under the same valid organization number.

When establishing a discount agreement, crossing fees are continuously deducted at a 30% discounted rate from the prepaid amount. A new invoice is sent when approximately 25% of the prepaid amount remains.

Prepaid amounts for up to 2 vehicles in the agreement:

AP1-AP2 (up to 8 m): NOK 3,600
AP3-AP6 (8.01–17.5 m): NOK 12,000
AP7-AP9 (over 17.5 m): NOK 20,000

Prepaid amounts for more than 2 vehicles in the agreement:

Companies with more than 2 vehicles in categories AP3-AP6 (8–17.5 meters) or AP7-AP9 (17.51 meters and longer) may have their prepaid amount calculated based on the expected average monthly turnover multiplied by 1.5 – for all vehicles registered under an agreement for the Moss-Horten route.

The prepaid amount is set to the highest of the following:

Minimum payment for 2 vehicles (NOK 24,000 up to AP6) or (NOK 40,000 for AP7 and above).

Minimum payment based on expected turnover for 1.5 months for all vehicles registered under the agreement.

AP3-AP6 (8–17.5 m): Minimum amount NOK 24,000

AP7-AP9 (over 17.5 m): Minimum amount NOK 40,000

This means that when calculating the prepaid amount for agreements with more than 2 vehicles, the following steps must be taken:
The discounted price (in the correct category) per crossing is multiplied by the expected number of trips per month for all vehicles in the agreement. The calculated monthly amount is then multiplied by 1.5.

The prepaid amount calculated at the time of establishing the agreement represents a full prepayment for all vehicles in the agreement. After the agreement is established, business customers with more than 2 vehicles in categories AP3-AP9 who wish to change the prepaid amount can email 

 and specify the desired prepaid amount. The amount cannot be lower than the minimum amount stated in the table or the average expected turnover per month multiplied by 1.5. Once the invoice is paid, the 30% discount will be applied.

All our ferries transport dangerous goods in accordance with the regulation on dangerous goods on Norwegian ships,

. This is because other vessels operating on the Moss-Horten route have length restrictions in the designated areas onboard intended for the placement of dangerous goods during transport.

Drivers transporting dangerous goods must fill out a checklist. This must be signed and submitted to the crew during boarding.

I need parking near the elevator onboard, who should I approach? 

Travelers who, for health reasons, require a special placement of their vehicle onboard must go to the manual ticket booth. This ensures you are directed to the appropriate line so you can be near the elevator or stay on the upper deck and remain in your car. It is possible to pay with an AutoPass tag also at the manual booth.

You can use a valid AutoPASS tag as a payment method when traveling with us. There is also a manual option for payment using debit cards, credit cards, and cash.

If I am traveling without a car, where do I board, and what is the cost?

All foot and bicycle passengers must board via the car deck. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles onboard.

All pedestrians and cyclists travel for free on the ferry.

I have questions regarding AutoPASS, who do I contact?

If I forgot something on the ferry, who do I contact? 

Contact our administrative office in Horten. All lost items will be stored for up to three months.

Please note that inquiries will only be answered during opening hours.

Can I bring an electric scooter into the lounge?  

No, it is not allowed. Electric scooters must be stored on the car deck during the crossing, and passengers are responsible for securing them during the trip.

The crossing takes approximately 30–35 minutes.

Can I stay in the car during the crossing?

For safety reasons, it is not allowed to remain in your car on the lower car deck during the crossing on Bastø I and Bastø II. You may, however, stay in your car on the upper car deck on these ferries. On our four newer ferries—Bastø IV, Bastø V, Bastø VI, and Bastø Electric—there is only one deck where passengers can remain in their cars.

Can I reserve a spot on the ferry in advance?

No, it is not possible to reserve a spot in advance.

Children over 10 years old can travel alone. Children under 10 years old must travel with a person who is at least 16 years old. Please note that the crew has many tasks related to traffic management and safety. There is no established system for taking care of children traveling alone, so this should be considered before sending a child alone on the ferry.

Yes, we have designated rooms onboard where you can sit with your pet. Pets travel for free.

Passengers can bring dangerous goods onboard the ship. Items that are not allowed (listed below) or stored in containers exceeding the maximum size listed must be transported in accordance with "Regulation of July 1, 2014, No. 944 on Dangerous Goods on Norwegian Ships."
