The value of collaboration
Every company has a social responsibility. But social responsibility is also determined by choosing good partners. In Torghatten, we carefully choose our partners.
We collaborate with the non-profit organization MOT because they work to develop tomorrow’s employees and build good societies. For Torghatten, this adds value both directly and indirectly. We also work with CWIN and Forut because they support organizations in countries in which they operate in a sustainable way making real change, enabling them to build their own communities.
Supporting victims of child labour in Nepal
Torghatten collaborates with Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN). Torghatten has, among other things, contributed to the construction of an earthquake-proof multi-purpose building for Balika Peace Home. This will work as a crisis and transit centre for girls who have been exposed to child labour, violence, and abuse. The house was readybuilt in October 2022. CWIN fights for children’s rights and works tirelessly to permanently secure them through legislation.
From 2023, Torghatten is also corporate sponsor for the Norwegian aid organization FORUT, that helps to support the work of CWIN. FORUT works with establishing female workplaces, local goods production, schools, health, and education in six partner countries, and supports crisis telephones and care centres for children who are helped out of child labour and abuse. When Torghatten chose to work with FORUT, it was based on their collaboration with and support for local organisations. This gives local people who know the culture and conditions the opportunity to make a difference. Because of this, their and thus our assistance becomes viable in a long-term perspective as well.
Show courage
The purpose of Torghatten is to connect people and societies. This is what we do every single day when we transport passengers from A to B. But we are also able to link people together in other ways. We believe in the importance of taking responsibility and work hard for the kind of society we want. Both here in Norway and all around the world. This is the reason why we since 2015 have supported MOT and their work to increase the quality of life and strengthen young people’s resilience coping with life and courage.
In Torghatten, we want more people to have MOT (courage) to care about both their own life and the lives of others. That’s something we would all benefit from. Our goal as a company and fellow human beings is to be reliable, attentive, offensive and involving - values that go hand in hand with MOT’s. We’re proud of the work we do together with MOT, and they are helping to strengthen our work with culture building in the company, for example through leadership development.
